Back in 1987 The Dudes started with two co-workers talking about musical preferences and previous playing experience. Two events occurred at that time, which lead to the first jam session. Jimi Ray (guitar player), had some free time on Tuesday because his wife was on a bowling league. Roger (bass player), has a brother that moved away for several months leaving a bass guitar behind. Roger quickly “borrowed” the bass and brought it to Jimi Ray's house one Tuesday night after work.
After a few adult beverages, some words from Roger and some music ideas from Jimi the first song started to come together. One problem, Roger or Jimi couldn't sing and play. So Jimi called a good friend he knew from high school and a little later, Slim (AKA Chris) walks in. With Bass, Guitar and Vocals and no P.A. system they laid down the first idea on a portable cassette recorder.
Since then the band has gone through the usual changes in personal and rehearsal spaces. They have also had few conflicts and some extended breaks. But as most musicians know, you just can't get this out of your system. After all this time the Dudes are still jamming and just won’t give up!
The Dudes play at parties and bars, benefits and festivals around Oakland and Wayne county.
